I also believe there’s a lot of truth to the idea of keeping digital items out of the bedroom, including the TV. Our bedrooms should be spaces dedicated to rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, and introducing digital distractions can interfere with that. The constant stimulation from screens—whether from phones, tablets, or televisions—can disrupt our ability to wind down and truly relax. The blue light emitted by these devices can interfere with the production of melatonin, the hormone that helps us fall asleep, making it harder to get a restful night’s sleep.
I’m a huge movie buff, but I choose not to have a TV in my bedroom. While I absolutely love films and enjoy watching them, I’ve found that keeping the bedroom as a place for rest and relaxation is essential for my well-being. Having a TV in the bedroom can create a temptation to watch something late into the night, which often disrupts my sleep and leaves me feeling tired the next day. By not having one in the room, I avoid that distraction and create a clear boundary between entertainment and rest. Instead, I reserve my movie-watching for other areas of the house, where I can truly enjoy the experience without it encroaching on my time to unwind and recharge. Whether it’s on the couch or in a dedicated home theater space, I can fully immerse myself in a film without the guilt of staying up too late or sacrificing my sleep.
This decision also helps me create a healthier bedtime routine. Without the lure of a TV, I can engage in more calming activities before bed, like reading, journaling, or meditating, which help me wind down naturally. In addition, indoor plants can help improve the atmosphere in my home, purifying the air and creating a sense of tranquility. Their presence adds warmth, color, and life to my space.
